Zurich wins the Trofeo Príncipe de Asturias

Sunday, 9 September 2007: Zurich was declared winner of the 22nd 22 Trofeo Príncipe de Asturias-Trofeo Corporacion Caixa Galicia that ended today on the waters off Bayona, after Jan Santana’s boat, helmed by Jordi Calafat and José Maria Torcida, scored a 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the last three races.

The regatta was closely fought and leadership was decided in the last day. Quebramar-Chrysler lead during the first two days, closely followed by Canarias Puerto Calero but these two teams had less than perfect performance in the closing day, giving Zurich the opportunity to win the event and Quum Marketing to grab the 3rd place after two victories and a second.

Jan Santana, owner of Zurich: I really think we sailed well throughout the regatta. The fifth palce in the first race was a drag but after that, everything went well and we achieved our goal. We had some very good starts and we were able to understand the race course in order to achieve important victories. We have also been able to consolidate our leadership in the Spanish championship, with one event remaining.
