Second day of Trofeu Quebramar-Chrysler promises more excitement
Friday, 31 August 2007: After an extraordinary opening day, the Trofeu Quebramar-Chrysler continues on Friday and promises to offer more excitement. Firstly, the weather forecast calls for even stronger winds than yesterday. The northwestern breeze should blow over the Cascais bay in a range between 18 and 22 knots.
Secondly, the race for a podium spot is getting tougher, particularly for third position, and all eyes will be on the two Italian teams.
Quotes
Laureano Wizner, helmsman of Quebramar-Chrysler: Yesterday we simply had a bad day. In all three races we were ahead of the fleet till the last mark but we managed to give up our leadership due to a combination of errors. In the first one it was an error in a maneuver, in the second one it was a poorly executed gybe while in the third one it was bad luck, if such a thing exists. Still, you should also take into consideration the fact that the rest of the fleet is continuously improving and getting closer to us. The boats and crews are converging and it will be increasingly difficult to win the races.
The GP42 boats are extremely fun to sail. This class can and should continue to grow and if we manage the future correctly we can very well reach the success of the TP52s.
Sébastien Col, helmsman of Roma: Yesterday's strong winds offered us a very interesting day and I'm sure all teams were surprised by the intensity of the breeze.
We sailed well, better than the rest of the fleet and this is my we won. We have also optimized the boat and we are very satisfied with our downwind speed.
Our tactician, Alvaro Muñoz, has a thorough knowledge of the Cascais area, having sailed with the 470s and this contributed considerably to our success. The boat has been gradually developed during the season and we have noticed it performed slightly worse in light conditions. In stronger winds such as yesterday we are on par with the fleet. Last but not least, two days of training have helped us a lot.
