Santi Lopez-Vazquez: Our leadership shouldn't be taken for granted, it will be a tough event

Thursday, 30 August 2007: Right after the skipper meeting and a couple of hours before the start of the first race, Santi Lopez-Vazquez, tactician aboard current leader Quebramar-Chrysler, did not take victory in the event for granted. Although his team will start with a clear advantage, Lopez-Vazquez insisted it would be dangerous to talk about victory with 9 races scheduled in the event. He was aware of the difficult races they would have to face and the high level all teams had reached, especially after the incorporation of a number of America's Cup sailors in almost all teams. Nevertheless, the goal of Quebramar-Chrysler is to be crowned champions of the 2007 season.

The race area in Cascais is much more complicated than Valencia or Palma. There are important wind shifts, differences in pressure and the currents play an important role. It is much easier to commit errors but this factor could play in their favor, since they have proved to be one of the most consistent teams and the one to commit the least number of errors, according to Lopez-Vazquez.
